Our work in the industry started with a vision by Professor Devin Robinson to "take back" the industry by placing store ownership into the hands of people of color. It started with him opening his own store in 2005, which led to him writing the best-selling book, Taking it Back: How to Become a Successful Black Beauty Supply Store Owner. In 2008, he founded Beauty Supply Institute. The training and consulting organization has led to him opening over 100 stores and hosting two annual beauty supply conferences since 2010.
To further expand the movement's offerings, he became a certified commercial business lender and founded, Beauty Supply Lending Group. No more are there excuses for us not taking it back!
